The pod is egg-shaped for great strength and aerodynamic efficiency. The superstructure is similar to the frame of an aircraft. In the event of a crash, the driver is cocooned by front and side airbags.
A small air-cooled gasoline engine (similar to a portable generator) can recharge the batteries when an electrical outlet is not available. It can send power directly to the wheel motors for extended highway travel. A single drive shaft with electronic clutch runs the generator and compressor for the leaning struts and air conditioner.
This gasoline engine can recharge the batteries while the vehicle is parked and unattended. It does not directly drive the wheels. Thus, it eliminates a complicated mechanical transmission, providing a simpler four-wheel drive electric drivetrain.
